Obituary for Edwin Lawrence Wilding Sr.

Edwin Lawrence  Wilding Sr.
WILDING, Sr., Edwin Lawrence, 86, passed away peacefully to his Heavenly home on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the VA Hospital, with his wife by his side after a brief illness.
Born in Louisville, he was a 1946 graduate of duPont Manual High School. He married Alma Redman in 1950 and 6 weeks later went on active duty for the U.S. Army at Ft. Hood , Texas where their first child, Barbara, was born. When he returned home to Louisville, he worked as a draftsman for various companies and in 1959 went to work at Griffin & Company until 1990. His talents showed in the many patents he held, on primary process tobacco handling equipment. Ed was a creative man with a generous spirit. He enjoyed bowling, and weekends at the cabin he built at Rough River and playing Pinochle. He was a member of the Harry R. Kendall Masonic Lodge. Upon his retirement, Alma and Ed moved to Port Orange, Florida where they enjoyed their Florida lifestyle. He was an active member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Port Orange, serving in various capacities. In 2007 he and his wife returned to the Louisville area to spend final years closer to family.
Edwin was preceded in death by siblings, Henry, Jr., Kenneth, and Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Alma Wilding; children, Edwin L. Wilding, Jr. (Karen), Barbara E. Shelton (Terry) and Karen Gibson (Glen); brother, Raymond L. Wilding (Shirley); 6 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Edwin’s funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm on Monday at Highlands.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
The family especially wishes to thank Kristina Quiroga for her dedication and faithful, loving care for Ed.
