Obituary for Virginia Riedling (Myers)
Riedling, Virginia, (Myers), 82, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018.
In addition to strong commitment to family, Virginia was a lifelong educator whose legacy includes her family of teachers and thousands of children whom she taught in her years as a teacher in JCPS at Stivers Elementary, at Alliance Christian Academy (Buechel Christian School), and as a substitute teacher for JCPS at Foster Traditional Academy.
Virginia was a 40 year member of St. Matthews Baptist Church, a graduate of UofL with a BA in Elementary Education and a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.
Traveling with various members of the family to many destinations in this country especially Hawaii and Florida was one of Virginia’s passions in life. She also enjoyed traveling more than a dozen times to the United Kingdom and Western Europe. Her favorite trips were to Israel, Australia and New Zealand and a Transatlantic Disney Cruise to Spain and Italy.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ethylmae Harwell and William Robert Myers, Sr. and her brother, William Robert Myers, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gerald Lee Riedling and her children, Lynn Carol Riedling, Karen Elizabeth Riedling (Rose Ott) of Tampa, FL., Robert Lee Riedling, and sister-in-law, Martha Thomas Myers. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Marian Griffin (Don), Michelle Koester (Martin), Monica Pemberton (Chuck), David Myers and their families.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
Her funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grandview Ave. with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
In honor of Virginia, donations may be made to St. Matthews Baptist Church, Jefferson Community & Technical College (Scholarship Fund) or Foster Traditional Academy.
