Obituary for Mary Patricia Meagher Burch

Mary Patricia Meagher Burch
Burch, Mary Patricia Meagher, 79, returned to her heavenly father on Friday May 26, 2017. Affectionately known as “Patsy”, she was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Savage Meagher, and was the eldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph “Conn” Burch, and her sister Mary Ann Nauert. She is survived by her sisters, Kate Hancock (Nick), Helen Downard, her brother Michael Meagher (Marci), sister-in-law’s Mary Martha Burch and Davalene Burch, seven children; Greg (Teri), Joe Pat (Susan), Frank (Helen), Dennis (Mary Anne), Susan (John), Anita (Eric) and Dan (Kim), sixteen grandchildren; Matt Burch (Angela), Nick Burch (Alisa), Erin Burch, Ryan Burch, Holly Burch, Hannah Burch, Kathryn Burch, Rebecca Burch, Andrew Burch, Max Burch, Anna Burch, Joe Burch, Mary Cate Burch, Ben Burch, Sarah Caudy, Abby Caudy, first great granddaughter Stella Burch and many nieces and nephews.
Raised a faithful Catholic, Patsy was proud to be a graduate of Our Mother of Sorrows and Presentation Academy. She furthered her education and attended nursing school in Louisville, until she met her husband Conn. With their first date on the tennis court, it was “love” at first sight. They eventually married, began their family in Jeffersontown, KY., became devoted parishioners at St. Edward Church, and were able to maintain their love of tennis in between children, ball games (especially UK, Jeffersontown High School, Trinity, Sacred Heart and St. Edward) and work. Patsy worked tirelessly to provide a loving and nurturing home for her family and extended her compassion to anyone in need. With the majority of her time dedicated to raising her children, she still found a way to continue her love of tennis and played for many years in women’s tennis leagues throughout the city of Louisville. Not only an avid tennis player, she was a Junior League of Louisville member, a founding member of the Trinity “Momma Rocks”, and a USTA certified official. Unfortunately, as her bodily “parts” wore out, she finally laid down her tennis racquet in her early 60’s, but cherished her friendships made through her tennis “family” and looked forward to seeing them on our heavenly court. Her love for others and generosity of spirit will be forever felt.
Visitation will be on Wednesday May 31, 2017 from 12:00pm – 8:00pm at Highlands Funeral Home 3331 Taylorsville Road with funeral services to be held at 10:00 am Thursday June 1, 2017 at St. Edward Church located at 9608 Sue Helen Drive, Jeffersontown, KY. 40299.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Patsy, expression of sympathy can be made to Mass of the Air or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
