Obituary for Joseph Michael "Bud" Burke

Burke,
Joseph Michael “Bud”, 87, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family Tuesday, April 11, 2017.

He was a Louisville native, born to the late Martin Joseph and Margaret Garry Burke. He graduated from Flaget High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Ralston Purina and a member of St. Pius X Parish. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching boys’ basketball at St. Barnabas. Bud enjoyed his retirement by wintering in Destin, FL and spending time with his family.

Bud was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Carrie “Sis” Clements Burke and daughter- in-law, Nancy Burke.

He is survived by his children, Vickie Burke - Kanngiesser (Tom), Sherry Faust (Phil), Cindy Burke Goff (Rodney) Mike Burke and Patty Burke Simone (Paul); grandchildren, Robby Hitchcock, Carrie Chesher ((Tim), Graham Goff, Barrett Goff, Veronica Goff , Josh Waits, Josh Simone (Whitney), Matt Simone and Brenna Burke Simone and great-grandchildren, Avery Hitchcock and Beau Burke Chesher.

His funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. John Paul II, 3521 Goldsmith Lane with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 pm Monday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Children’s Tumor Foundation, 120 Wall Street, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10005, Mass on the Air or Hosparus of Louisville.

The family is thankful to his live-in caregiver and friend, Jane Roark and the Hosparus team, with a special thanks to Sean and Deann.
