Obituary for Jim Connelly

Jim Connelly
CONNELLY, James Anthony, 86, died on September 5, 2016 in London, Ontario after a brief illness.
Jim was proud of the fact that he was born and grew up in the Schnitzelburg neighborhood of Louisville. He was especially proud to have been the captain of the 1948 Park Football Association champions, the Bloodhounds and loved telling us stories about it. He retired after many years with W.F. Meyers Company. In his retirement, Jim divided his time between Kentucky, Canada, and Florida golfing everyday possible. He loved golfing and spending time at his fishing camp on Nolin with family fishing, boating and cooking our catch. Always a gentleman, he still loved a good political debate and frequently challenged his children and grandchildren to defend their views. He didn’t really judge you by the party you chose, but by your reasoning behind your choice. You better be up on your current events when Dad called! Jim loved life and lived each day with energy, a positive attitude and a mischievous sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony “Bill” and Edna Connelly; wife, Doris Moore Connelly; brother Robert Connelly; and beloved son, James Anthony “Tony” Connelly II.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Theresa Reynolds (Kevin) and Nancy Harris; daughter-in-law, Donna Connelly; sister, Sally Kustes; sister-in-law, Bette Connelly; grandchildren, Jennifer Wyatt, Shane Elwell (Lance), Shawn Williams (Miranda), Diane Rector (JR), Timothy Harris, Katherine Reynolds, and Olivia Connelly; great-grandchildren Shelby and Julia Woeste, Chase Williams, Joshua Meyer, Lane and Morgan Elwell, Wyatt Rector and Sierra Harris; and his dear friend and companion Marguerite Strangways.
Jim’s visitation will be on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 10-11 am with funeral service to follow at 11am at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Kentucky Humane Society.
