Obituary for Helen Schuhmann

Schuhmann, Helen Rachel (Flood),

97, of Louisville, passed away Monday, November 23, 2015.

Born Helen Rachel Flood in Stephensport, KY on July 11, 1918, she was the daughter of John and Catherine Flood. Helen was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph and later graduated as a registered nurse from the Nazareth College of Nursing (Spalding University). At Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, she met Dr. George N. Schuhmann, whom she married on March 8, 1941, a blizzardy day on Governor's Island, New York.

She lived in New York, Boston and Seattle before spending 3 years in Japan. She and her husband settled in Louisville and raised 9 children.

She enjoyed her bridge groups, good parties, and family gatherings. She loved a good joke and always had a twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes.

A recent resident of Treyton Oaks Tower, she was preceded in death by her husband, George, and daughter, Lee Bowling.

She is survived by her children, Cathy Jensen (Greg), George (Suzi), Alyce Moore (Jim), Rita Mayer (John), Mary Lovelll (Jim), Pat Lemmon (Joe), son-in-law John Bowling, Donna Bohn (Bruce), and Ann Meredith (Steve). In addition she had 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be 3-7pm Friday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Funeral Mass will be 10am Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, 1826 Edenside Drive. Private interment in Calvary Cemetery.
