Obituary for Joseph Welch

Joseph  Welch
WELCH, Sr., Joseph Anthony, 83, of Louisville, died August 13, 2015 in the Palliative Care Unit at Baptist Hospital East, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born on August 3, 1932, the first child to Marty and Amelia Welch. He graduated from St. Columba grade school, Flaget High School in 1951, UofL in 1955, and 1963 with an M.B.A. Joe was an Air Force veteran and retired as a Lt. Col. from the Air Force Reserve. He had his own insurance agency with Allstate for 30 years. He was a long-time member of Knights of Columbus, and was an avid Trinity Shamrock Booster and UofL Cardinal fan. Joe was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle; he had many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Ellen Welch; and a brother, Gerry Welch.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy; daughters, Mary Anne Lueken (Pat) and Kathy Koenig; son, Joseph Anthony Welch, Jr. (Ruth); 9 grandchildren, Laura Bradley (Bill), Kari Purvis (Mike), Ryan Long, Brent Lueken, Kyle Lueken, Jonathon Long, Megan Welch, Morgan Welch, and Bradley Koenig; 4 great-grandchildren, Connor McManus, Morgan Bradley, Taylor McManus and Kennedy Bradley; sister, Miriam McCreary; brothers, Dennis and Mike Welch; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-great-grandchild.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, August 17, 2015 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Prospect, KY, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8pm on Sunday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Palliative Care staff for the extraordinary kindness and care shown to Joe and his family.
