Obituary for Joan Craven Uhl

UHL, JOAN CRAVEN, 82, wife, mother and artist, died January 28, 2012.
She was born to Marguerite and John Preston Craven, grew up in the west end of Louisville and graduated from Shawnee High School. She worked as a secretary for several companies, retired from Stewart's Department Store (Interior Design) and later worked for Talbots. Her signature role in life was wife of 57 years to Jack. As devoted and complementary companions; they raised three children, served as volunteers for the Cathedral of the Assumption and cared for their family and friends.
Joan had a lifelong interest in art, volunteered for the Speed Museum and painted in oil at Schrodt Art Studio. Her paintings include landscapes, portraits and still life compositions, which now grace the homes of family and friends.
She enjoyed her grandchildren, home decorating, travel, family pets and a good martini - straight up.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory husband, Jack Uhl; children, Melissa Uhl Draut (Ken), Nick Uhl (Lisa Santos) and Stephanie Uhl Pfeifer (Tom); grandchildren, Sam Draut, Emily Pfeifer and Michele Pfeifer; sisters, Mary Wagner, of Little Rock, AR and Barbara Walker; and brother, Don Craven.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. 5th St.
Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Cathedral of the Assumption, Episcopal Church Home or the Speed Museum.
