Obituary for Edward L. Cooke, III

Age 91, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018. He was born on March 17, 1927 to the late Edward, Jr. and Leanor Cooke. He was President of Ryan, Cooke, and Zuern Architects. He was also president of the Kentucky Society of Architects, AIA; chairman and architect member of the Historic Landmarks & Preservation Districts of Louisville; chairman of Architectural Review Committee of the West Main Street Review Preservation District; Chairman of the Building Code Appeals Board for the City of Louisville; and appointed by the Governor to serve on the Kentucky Appeals Board. He recieved numerous design awards from the Kentucky Society of Architects and preservation awards from the Louisville, Jefferson County Preservation Alliance.
Ed was a veteran and commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons; Michael and David Cooke.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Darst Cooke; sons, Ed Cooke IV (Mary Ann), and Mark Daniel Cooke; grandchildren, Sarah Curl (Troy), David, Matthew, Joshua, and Morgan Cooke; and David’s wife before he passed, Bobbie Christie.

His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Louisville, KY 40205. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 2 from 3 - 7 PM at Highlands Funeral Home.
