Obituary for John Robert Sass

John Robert Sass, 53, of Louisville, died on Thursday, March 22, 2018. Born in Louisville, John was a graduate of St. Xavier High School and the University of Dayton. He earned his MBA from Bellarmine University. He was a licensed CPA and Vice President of Compliance for Norton Healthcare and a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.

John was born in Louisville, on October 4, 1964. He is survived by his three daughters, Madeline, Claire, and Olivia; his parents, Barbara (Raasch) and Joe; his loving partner, Dr. Melissa Dorsett; and his brothers, Joe (Ann) and James; and his nieces and nephews, Kate, Michael, Emma, Sara, and Will. John was preceded in death by his wife, Jennifer (Robinson) Sass, and his sister, Elizabeth Ann.

John was a person loved by so many. He had a countless number of friends from his days at St Xavier High School, the University of Dayton, KIVA, St. Margaret Mary, and Norton Healthcare. He collected friends wherever he was, and never outgrew them. Those friendships remained strong his entire life because of the special person that he was.
John was blessed to work for a company that gave him unquestioned support during the years that his spouse, Jenny (Robinson), bravely fought cancer. Norton provided John and his family the flexibility to provide the time and care demanded. In turn, John was a devoted employee to Norton, working there for 24 years.
John had many interests, but chief among them was anything involving his girls. As a Sass, sports were topmost, and he was always game for coaching any team that involved his girls—from Madeline’s Pink and White flag football team at Assumption, to Claire’s softball team and Olivia’s flag football team at St Margaret Mary. John also loved training for marathons. It wasn’t unusual to see John on the side of the road, running or riding a bike, most often with his friend, Ryan Moorman, by his side. Past marathons included those in New York City, Boston, Chicago, and the Marine Corps.
In short, John had family everywhere. Part of his extended family included the good people at St Margaret Mary and Assumption, who supported him and his family during the difficult and demanding years of Jenny’s battle with cancer. One more very special part of John’s family, beloved by both John and his girls, was Melissa Dorsett. She brought such joy to John and the special bond and mutual support that they shared was evident to all.
He will be missed.
John’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at St. Margaret Mary, 7813 Shelbyville Rd., with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 – 8 Tuesday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
