Obituary for Ann C. Farmer Wise

Ann C. Farmer Wise
Ann Carroll Farmer Wise,
Age 80, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer. She was born at home in Lebanon, Kentucky on November, 22nd 1930, the first born of Joseph Virgil and Dolly Mae Farmer.

Ann was in the first co-ed graduating class of Male High School in 1956. She was a proud and active member of St. Martha Parrish and the Preservation Of Old Friends Organization (POFO). She held several jobs over her years including crossing guard, Bacon’s sales, and teacher’s aide for special needs students with the Jefferson County Public School system. She retired at 79 after 22 years with JCPS. At the time of her retirement, she was the oldest working employee of the school system and was very loved by her work family at Jeffersontown High School. She was a Special Olympics volunteer and felt great fulfillment in working with individuals in that population. Her energy was boundless and she prided herself on staying active, visiting the gym daily to meet her Fitbit step-goal. Her mind stayed young and sharp until the end, embracing technology and enjoying time on social media. Her life’s joy was being with her family and loved ones and caring for others.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 36 years Kenny “Fred” Wise as well as her brother Virgil (Buddy) Farmer.

Ann is survived by her two sons, Jeff Wise (Jeannine), Mark Wise (Amy), four granddaughters; Ryan Cecil (Ryan), Meagan Coke (Steven), Halie Thompson (Daniel) and Lindsey Wise, three great grandchildren, Charlotte and Benjamin Cecil and Vivian Coke. She is further survived by her loving siblings, Donnie Farmer, Mike Farmer, and her best friend and Irish twin, Gayle Glass. She was the matriarch and binding thread of both her immediate and extended family and always opened her home to all during holidays. If the richness of life is measured by the number and quality of your relationships, Ann would be a billionaire. Her friendships spanned far and wide, and she will be missed tremendously by all who knew her.

Her Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Monday, March 26 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Ln. Louisville, KY 40218. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 - 7 PM on Sunday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Louisville, KY 40205.

The family would like to thank the compassionate Hosparus team, especially Ashley and Mary Alice , who provided guidance and comfort in this difficult time.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hosparus of Louisville (hosparushealth.org/donate), Special Olympics Delaware (619 S. College Ave. Newark, DE 19716).
