Clem, Shirley Joan
Age 84, of Louisville, passed away January 20, 2018 at Nazareth Home. Born in Louisville, Joan was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church. Joan and her husband A.B. loved to travel. Together they visited all 50 states and many foreign countries. They had a true long-term partnership. A.B. made all of the business decisions and Joan made all of the important ones. She was blessed with many friends whom she visited often. She had a love of being surrounded by her family and friends, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew her as “Mamaw.”
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Clem; parents, Walter and Mary Oetken; sister, Marlene Oetken, OSU; brother, Jerry Oetken, and grandson, Travis Clem.
She is survived by her sons, Don (Kathy) and Tom (Theresa); brother, Jim Oetken (Betty); brothers-in-law, Larry Clem (Sonia), Bob Clem (Sue); sister-in-law, Catherine; grandchildren, Jennifer Epley (Todd), Matt Clem (Jenna), and Shelby Clem; step-granddaughter, Michelle Day (Nick); great-grandchildren, Mac and Connor Clem; step-great-grandchildren, Tyler and Daniel Day; and numerous favorite nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joan’s Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Thursday, January 25 at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, corner of Bardstown Rd. and Lancashire Ave. with entombment to follow in Resthaven Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 – 7 PM on Wednesday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Louisville, KY 40205.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Cornett and the staff at the Nazareth Home for their compassion and wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ursuline Sisters or the Charity of your choice.
