Obituary for Don

FARMER,
Donald Eugene, 79, of Shelbyville, KY and formerly of Louisville, KY was born to John and Frances Farmer and returned home to his Heavenly Father surrounded by his loved ones on January 3, 2018.
Don was a 1956 graduate of DuPont Manual High School. He worked at Jones Dabney/Celeanese Coating Company for 39 years. He excelled in bowling and softball, winning multiple city championships. He was also an avid University of Kentucky fan.
Most importantly, he was a follower of Jesus Christ. He attended Larchmont Church of God for 60 years. He and his wife, Norma, led the church youth programs, leaving a profound influence on hundreds of young people.
Don was known to go the extra mile for others by donating more than 25 gallons of blood, participating in Meals on Wheels and driving seniors to doctor appointments and outings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John “Eddie” Farmer; sister, Mary Frances Farmer; mother-in-law, Marie Horn; and his beloved daughter, Mary Jo Morton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Norma; daughter, LaDonna (Todd); son-in-law, Paul Morton; grandchildren, Donnie (Adrienne), Brandon (Allison), Joshua (Sarah), Aaron (Tammy), and Emily (Ty); great-grandchildren, Emma, Nora, Elijah, Mollie, Hailey, Annabelle, Cora, Rosalie, Henry, Caroline, and soon-to-be-baby, Cheatham; brother, Joe (Carol); sister-in-law, Annetta Farmer; Uncle “Love” White; and many other family members and dear friends.
He was known for his witty personality and his love for his family and they loved and respected him.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Highlands.
