Obituary for Gilbert J. Yunt Sr.

Gilbert Jerome Yunt, Sr., 88, died Tuesday at Baptist Health Palliative Care with Hospice.
He was born March 12, 1929, son of Albert and Dorothy Sondergeld Yunt in Louisville. He was a Veteran of the Korean War in the U.S. Navy, and worked for 26 years at Carrier Vibrating and Rexnord Conveyors. He was a member of St. Pius X church, now John Paul II, where he was instrumental in founding the Booster Club for athletic teams. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Assumption Council and American Legion Highland Post.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Mary Beyerle Yunt; son, Michael Yunt; brother, Albert Yunt; and sister, Darlene Vaughn.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Hoskinson (Pete); daughters, Tina Bergamini (Tom), Susan Yunt, Jennifer Yunt; sons, Gilbert Yunt, Jr., and Charles Yunt; grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Tony, and Katie Bergamini, Lauren and Emily Yunt; and girlfriend of 11 years, Betty Bell.
His funeral mass will be at 10 AM on Monday, January 8 at St. John Paul II, 3521 Goldsmith Lane Louisville, KY 40220. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 – 7 PM on Sunday, January 7 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Louisville, KY 40205.
