Obituary for Laurence Curry Jr.

CURRY,

Laurence, Jr., 80, sailed into the high seas on Thursday, December 14, 2017 surrounded by his family.

Larry was a graduate of Atherton High School and the U of L Speed Scientific School in 1960. He was a Hydraulic Engineer for the US Army Corps of Engineers for 38 years. He was a member of the Motet Singers, Lions Club, Hamilton Historic Society, Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church, and was in the Air Force Reserves. Larry was an avid painter of historic tall ships, which you can currently view on display at Great Flood Brewing Co.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Laurence Sr. and Frances Curry; wives Patricia Carol Hulsey Rhodes and Martha Elaine Hutslar David.

He is survived by his former wife Anita Miles Cary and their two children Laura Curry (Michael Coffey) and Paul Curry; grandchildren Toby, Shawn, Tasha, Joshua Coffey and Oden Curry; sister, Lynn Kumar; step children, Michael Rhodes (Laurie), Sherry Strickland (William), Patricia Burkhardt (Larry), Kristy Benefield (Craig Gosseling), Amy Rhodes and Diane Modes (Kurt), Debbie Sokoloff, Susan David, Daniel David ( Wendy Butcher); 5 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild.

A service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church, 318 W. St. Catherine Street. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Donations may be made in honor of Larry’s life to: Open Door Ministry at Fourth Avenue UMC.
