Obituary for Martha Patricia "Pat" McIntire

Martha Patricia "Pat" McIntire
McIntire,
Martha "Pat" Patricia
78, entered into eternal life on December 12, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, William C. and Anna E. (Manning) Wagner, her sister Rose Marie (Dale), a son, Thomas A. McIntire, and several other loved family members and dear friends over the years. She is survived by her loving husband, caregiver and best friend, James S. “Sonny” McIntire. They celebrated 59 years of marriage, traveling life’s road together hand in hand. Pat is also survived by her brother, Rev. William F. Wagner, four sons; William F. (Mary Jo), James R., Robert A., and Charles F., along with 5 grandchildren; Dustin, Phillip, Ben, Kaitlyn and Carrie, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of extended family members and many beloved, long-time friends.

Pat was a graduate of St Benedict Grade School and Presentation Academy, and long-time parishioner of both St Athanasius and St Martha. She worked as a switchboard operator after high school and an assistant manager at El Patio Apartments in her retirement years. Pat’s most important role in life was as a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend. She cared for many in her family through their illnesses over the years. Raising five sons, she was an expert homemaker, which she light-heartedly referred to as Domestic Engineer. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and game shows, and was lucky enough to audition for Wheel of Fortune – a thrill she thoroughly enjoyed! Pat was a lifelong, avid league bowler, having started bowling at an early age with her Dad at the old Frederick’s on 7th St. She loved a good joke and a good drink! She also enjoyed traveling to visit family, and on many gambling trips around the country with family and wonderful friends. Pat loved to dance, and enjoyed many a dance with Sonny, the love of her life, over the years at many celebrations and occasions.

Pat never met a stranger. She was an outgoing, fun-loving redhead who loved to laugh. If she knew of someone in need, she was among the first to help. Pat always wore an angel (and a UofK pin) on her shoulder, and believed deeply in the power of prayer and the Golden Rule. She loved hugs, and gave one to anyone in need of one. Our dear “Pat”, “Martha P.”, “Mom” will be deeply missed, and always remembered for her big, loving heart. We are lucky to have had her in our lives. May she enjoy the company of angels and rest in eternal peace as she reunites with loved ones gone before her.

Her service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Presentation Academy or the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
