Obituary for Kathleen Compton Stone (Compton)

Stone, Kathleen Compton
Age 97, of Louisville, passed away at her home Thursday, November 30, 2017. She was born on January 28, 1920 in Ashland, KY to the late John and Martha A. Webb Compton. Although her roots were in Ashland, Kathleen moved to Louisville at the age of eight when her father was transferred with the railway. She graduated from Louisville Girls High School and attended Bellarmine University. She retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. having worked in sales for over twenty years. She was a devoted member of Beargrass Christian Church.
Kathleen was a volunteer with the American Red Cross during the Second World War, a violinist in the Louisville Youth Orchestra, a member of Society of The Daughters of the American Revolution and a candidate for The Societies Plantaganet, Ancient Planters, Charlemagne and Magna Charta. She was a brave, hardworking, intelligent, eccentric, driven individual who rarely met a stranger; and, left a person without leaving a lasting impression. She had a full life in retirement, filling her days with her love of nature, reading, and needlework. She was a true renaissance woman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Gilbert Stone, Sr.; one brother, Ronald Clement Compton; two sisters, Helen Riedling, and Herma Compton.
She is survived today by three daughters, Cynthia Compton Stone, Susan Stone Speicher (William A.), and Sandra Stone-Vincey; one son, Ralph “Buddy” Gilbert Stone, Jr.; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Louisville, KY 40205. Burial will follow in the Cave Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 11 AM - 1 PM at Highlands.
