Obituary for Eugene Enlow PhD

Dr. Eugene I. Enlow, Ph.D. Th.D., born October 18, 1922 in Covington, KY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. Having recently celebrated his 95th birthday, Eugene was a beloved husband, father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, retired Baptist Minister, and faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eugene has been a pastor, evangelist, author, seminary professor and conference leader serving as a Baptist minister in Kentucky and Oklahoma for more than 60 years. Eugene earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky. While in college, Eugene would lead the singing, playing his trombone with his father preaching revivals throughout Kentucky, while serving as pastor of Crooked Creek Baptist church in Pendleton County, Kentucky; and then Clover Bottom Baptist Church, Woodford County, Kentucky where he continued during Seminary studies.
Eugene earned three degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Theology, and Doctor of Philosophy. After Seminary, he was pastor of Bethany Baptist Church for twelve years, then pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma for ten years. Returning to Louisville, Eugene was pastor at Beechmont Baptist church for fourteen years, retiring November 1, 1988. In 2011, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by Georgetown College. Throughout his life, Eugene continued to love and support Georgetown College. For his 90th birthday, Eugene wrote his book, The Enlow Papers, A Legacy of Faith, (Amazon) that summarizes his personal walk with Christ and contains his favorite scriptures, sermons, life observations and humor.
Eugene was Pastor Emeritus of Beechmont Baptist Church, Louisville, KY, and was an Interim Pastor of thirteen churches after retiring from Beechmont. He traveled to Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, the Mediterranean Islands, Russia, England, Scotland, Ireland, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Norway, Sweden Estonia, Finland, Italy, Holland, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Alaska.
Eugene is predeceased by his parents, Reverend Isham Eugene and Marzella Phillips Enlow, his first wife, Anne Culley Yates Enlow, his daughter, Elisabeth Ann Enlow Shaw, and his brother, Phillip Ferrell Enlow and his great-grandson Connor Lawson McSwain.
He leaves behind his legacy of love and faith; his loving wife, Bettye McSwain Lovorn Enlow, Eugene’s daughter, Jeanne Enlow Curtis (Stan), Louisville, KY, Bettye’s three sons; Lawson McSwain (Sue Ann), Louisville, KY, Steve McSwain (Pam), Louisville, KY and Doug McSwain (Nan), Lexington, KY. Grandchildren; Amy Shaw Dougherty (Todd) Little Rock, AR, John Shaw (Casey), Rogers, AR, Nathan Shaw, Rogers, AR, Sunshine Curtis Dobratz (Eric), Murfreesboro, TN, Brian (Anna) McSwain, Mason, Ohio, Ann Marie McSwain, Denver, CO, Jonathan McSwain (Jasmine), Louisville, KY, Michele McSwain Tepper (Adam), New York, NY, Phillip Orr (Kayla), Louisville, KY, Allison McGarry (Aaron), Louisville, KY, Lauren McSwain Starrett (Bryan), Greensborough, N. Caro., Kate McSwain, Boston, Mass. and 11 great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law Anne Collins Enlow, Virginia Beach, VA, sister, Charlotte Enlow McClatchey (Bill), Fort Myers, FLA, their children and grandchildren.
Visitation for Dr. Enlow will be held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd, Friday, November 17, 3 – 7 p.m., Funeral to be held Saturday, November 18, 10 a.m. Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Road, Burial at Resthaven Cemetery, 4400 Bardstown Rd., 1:30 p.m. Memorial Gifts in the name of Dr. Eugene I.
