Obituary for Marilyn Elizabeth Young (Dittmer)

Young, Marilyn Elizabeth Dittmer
86, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017. Born in Jasper, IN on May 26, 1931 she moved to Louisville, KY to attend St. Joseph Infirmary School of Nursing graduating in 1952. Marilyn was both a pediatric and geriatric nurse before retiring from the American Red Cross, the job she loved the most.
Marilyn enjoyed a full social life that included Al-Anon, playing bridge with her friends from St. Pius X, her Monday bible study group, and her Saturday night church and dinner ladies. She loved her new home and the community that she moved to in 2007. Marilyn’s favorite things were shopping, playing golf, watching birds at the feeder, and chocolate. But most of all she loved spending time with those she loved.
Marilyn had a wonderful long life and was boundlessly loved. She was a dear, sweet and pure soul and will be forever missed by her family, her many friends, and the larger community.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Westport Place Health Campus and Hosparus of Louisville.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, John; parents, Edgar & Victoria Dittmer; siblings, Kathleen and Jack; brother-in-law, Earl Eckert; and grandson, Benjamin Cantrell.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Elizabeth Hans (Gary), Kathleen Peterson (John), Mary Cantrell (Greg); grandchildren, Katie Hans Harris (Andrew), Benjamin Hans, Amy, Adam and Bridgett Cantrell; siblings, Shirley Eckert, Jim Dittmer (Marilyn), Nancy Lampert (Ambrose); and a host of family and friends.
Her celebration of life will be on December 9, 2017 at St. Albert the Great, 1395 Girard Dr. Louisville, KY 40222, beginning with visitation from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a mass beginning at 11:30 AM.
