Obituary for Laura Pauline "Polly" Jones (Stanford)

Jones, Laura Pauline “Polly”
age 94, of Louisville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Treyton Oak Towers in Louisville. She was born on July 27, 1923 in Akron, Ohio as the youngest daughter of the late Pearl Selma and Cash Montgomery Stanford. She met her future husband, John Edward Jones while working as a secretary for the B.F. Goodrich Company in Akron. John was a salesman in training for Goodrich. The young couple moved from John’s hometown of Huntington, WV to Louisville in 1950, where they raised their four children and established cherished and lasting friendships. A happy marriage ensued for 53 years.
Polly was a homemaker and very active in the lives of her children. Whether it was through the Scouts, the PTA, her church (Buechel Methodist, St. Paul Methodist) or little league baseball, she was a consistent and enthusiastic contributor. She was a lifelong member of Hurstbourne Country Club where she pursued her love of golf and bridge. Polly and John were avid University of Louisville fans and rarely missed a home football or basketball game. All who knew Polly were drawn to her gentle way, kind words, and welcoming spirit.
In addition to her parents and husband, Polly was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian Laybourne; and brother, James L. Stanford.
She is survived by her children, John Edward Jones, Jr. (Sherry), Nancy Bridges (Tracey), William Mossman Jones (Lauren), and Robert Stanford Jones (Beth); eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Ms. Narsia Terry, who unselfishly shared her gift of loving care to Polly for many years.
The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff of Treyton Oak Towers, who consistently extended their love, care, and affection for Polly.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 3 PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2000 Douglas Blvd. Louisville, KY 40205. All are invited to a reception at St. Paul’s following the funeral. Private entombment will be at a later time.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 – 3 PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
