Charles Richard, 76, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017.

He was born May 30, 1941 in Princeton, KY to the late Charles Wakefield Gowin and Margaret Buckner.
Richard was a graduate of U of L Speed School, retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1996 and a former Scoutmaster for Troop 321, where he helped guide his four sons toward attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a long time member of Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church.

Affectionately known as Poppy by his grandchildren, he loved spending time with his family, traveling in his RV, hiking, and camping.

His wife Sherrin preceded him in death by 11 years. He is survived by his sisters, Betty Whitehead and Ann Taylor; sons, Bryan (Lisa), Chris (Brandi), Scott (Julia) and Rob (Marsha); grandsons, Connor, Everett, Noah, and Garrison; granddaughters, Morgan Cockeril and Parker, the first girl in the family in countless years.

His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2017 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Highlands.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Lincoln Heritage Council, Boy Scouts of America.
