Bates,
John C. “J.C.”, Jr., 89, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
J.C. was a graduate and played football at Henry Clay High School. He was a Marine Corps WWII veteran, retired from VA Hospital in medical administration after 35 years, a KY Colonel and an avid UK fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgiana (Langtry) and John Bates, Sr. and his grandson, Alex Bates.
J.C. is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Pilkenton) Bates; sons, John Bates, III, and Glen Bates (Angie); daughter, Marsha Brown (Terry); sisters, Marilyn Sarko (Bob), Patty Hissong (Fred) and Janet Roessler (Malcolm); grandchildren, Jennifer Smith (Mike), Casey Bates, Kristi Mathis (Brett) and Abby Bates; step-grandchildren, Donnie Brown and Candice Byrne (Brian); great-grandchildren, Savannah Smith, Charlie Smith and Beckham Mathis and step-great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brock and Gunner Byrne.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial at Kraft – Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany, IN.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 8:00 pm. Friday at Highlands.
