McWilliams,
Kenneth Edward, 90, of Louisville, passed peacefully, Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Baptist Health LaGrange, after a long battle with Alzheimers.
Ken was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a Manual High School student in 1945, and to avoid being inducted into the Army on his 18th birthday he and four other students joined the Navy just before that day. He spent wartime on a weather ship in the Pacific. Released and recalled for Korea he was reassigned to a destroyer and sailed the Atlantic. Upon discharge he went back to finish high school and eventually earned an engineering degree. He retired from General Electric after 30 + years with the company and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
During civilian life he owned and bred many Bassett Hounds. He was a life member of Bassett Hound Club of America, and a charter life member of Kentuckiana Basset Hound Club. To the end of his life he dreamed of training and running his bassets and wanted to know if the hounds had been fed and where were the puppies (of long ago).
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mathias V. McWilliams and Agnes; wife, Gladys Bayens; wife, Mary Hughes.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Imogene “Jean” Spaulding; children, Janet McWilliams, Kenneth E. McWilliams (Phyllis) and Dale McWilliams; brothers, Charles and Eugene McWilliams; sisters, Marilyn Peckinpaugh and Judith Fuchs (Andy); stepchildren, Anthony Hughes (Tina), Alice Horan (Mike), Andrea Minahan (Fred), Audrey Polanco (Fredy), Richard Spaulding Sr. (Nancy); 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
His Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at St. Raphael Catholic Church, located at the corner or Bardstown Road and Lancashire Avenue with burial in Calvary Cemetery to follow. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
