Obituary for Edward Bruce Martin, Sr.

Edward Bruce Martin Sr., 96, passed away August 7th, 2017. He was born in Owensboro, KY. January 5th, 1921 to Cova and William D. Martin.

Ed was a WWII Navy Veteran and after serving he worked for the L & N Railroad for 22 years, The Louisville Chamber of Commerce for six years, and was Executive Vice President of the New Albany, Indiana Chamber of Commerce for sixteen years.

He was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church for 78 years where he had served as a deacon.
He is best known in the community as being the voice of Manual Stadium as he announced play by play football games there for fifty years. He was inducted in to the DuPont Manual Hall of Fame and the Metro Area Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.

He was an avid tennis player until the age of 91 and a member of the U.S. Tennis Association having won numerous tournaments and awards.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Doris Holland; and his son, Edward B. Martin Jr.
His survivors include his beloved bride of 76 years, Louise Martin; three daughters, Jackie S. Williams (David), Janice Tingle (Phil), Vicki Drane (Ben); and daughter-in-law, Belinda Martin; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at Walnut Street Baptist Church, 1101 South 3rd Street Louisville, KY 40203.

Visitation will be from 2 – 7 p.m. Thursday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
