Obituary for Helen Louise Ritter

RITTER,
Helen L., 95, died July 21, 2017 at the Franciscan Health Care Center. A graduate of Webster College and the University of Louisville, Helen taught at Parkland Junior High, Southern Junior High, and Atherton High School.

Helen was a resident of Audubon Park for over ninety years and a lifelong member of the Cathedral of the Assumption. Baptized at the Cathedral and a graduate of the former Cathedral School, she served on many committees and was involved in all aspects of parish life. She was past president of the former Louisville Education Association, the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, and the Audubon Park Garden Club. She was a member of the Audubon Park Council and a volunteer at Mattingly Center, Day Spring, and Norton Hospital.

Her love of people, her ability to make everyone feel special, and her sense of humor and quick wit will be missed by all fortunate to have known her.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Frank and Lula Mae Kraft Ritter; sisters, Sr. Francis Louise Ritter SL and Jody Gates; brother, Dr. Kraft Ritter; sister-in-law, Dolores Ritter; and niece, Teresa Morrow. She is survived by her lifelong friend, Betty L. Miles; brother-in-law, George I. Gates; fourteen nieces and nephews: Mary Scales (Paul), Martha Coda (Louis), JoAnn Gates, Jane Kensok (Tom), Anne Hambrick (Walter), Paul Gates (Marie), Joseph Ritter (Kim), John Ritter (Debbie), Scott Morrow, Mary Clare Heuser (Vince), David Gates, Paul Ritter (Sandy), Margaret Shaw (Dan), Barbara Ritter, and Robert Gates (Melissa); and 32 great-nieces and -nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. Fifth Street, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, with visitation at the Cathedral from 8:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Cathedral of the Assumption “Feed My Neighbor” daily lunch program.
