LAUYANS, Joan Marie (Schnell),

87, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Joan was a devoted wife, homemaker, caring mom to her three daughters and a doting Grandma. She was a devout Catholic, who always placed God first. She instilled in her daughters the virtues of patience, selflessness and kindness. Joan was artistic and stylish, genuine and sincere. Her welcoming smile and attention to others were ever present and will be a lasting memory to her loved ones.

She was preceded in death, by only a few weeks, by her loving husband of 62 years, Bob; her parents, Charles & Edith Schnell, her sisters Evelyn and Mary, and her brothers Charles and Alfred.

Left to cherish her memory are her three adoring daughters, Donna Dornbrook, Judy Thieneman (Tommy), Edie Lewis (Mike); her grandchildren, Andrew (Holly) and Chris Dornbrook, Rachael Morgan (Paul) and Leah Lewis; her sister Rita Elder; best friend Marilyn Heffernan and many loving family members.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Scharff and Dr. Jane Cornett, as well as the staff of Hosparus and the Episcopal Church Home for their compassionate care during her brief stay.

A celebration of Joan's life will be held Monday, July 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 5915 Outer Loop, of which she and Bob were founding members, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Her visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
