Obituary for Anna Marie "Tinkie" Quinn Rogers

Anna Marie "Tinkie" Quinn Rogers
Anna Marie “Tinkie” Quinn Rogers, 90, passed from the living to the immortal on June 24, 2017, prepared to meet her Maker and eager to reunite for eternity with the love of her life, her husband, Harold. Always an optimist, she remained forever ready with a smile and a question about others’ health and well-being, and what they had been doing. Mom, as she was known by most, will be forever remembered as the mom to the neighborhood, the adult who let the kids in the house to play, and who was always ready with a popsicle on a hot day and a band-aid, whether physical or emotional, for the cuts and injuries that hurt everyone.
Despite never being able to drive a car, Mom was not left out on what was going on and what was important and worth knowing about. Long a consumer of local televised and print media news, she was usually up on the latest from City Hall, Frankfort or Congress, as well as knowing who the Cats or Cards beat the night before. A lifelong Democrat, she was always on the side of the underdog, supportive of the working person, and aware of the need for the more fortunate to care for those less able to care for themselves. Having been born in 1926 and raised during the Great Depression, she was keenly aware of the need to watch every penny, while at the same time always being generous to a fault with whatever she had to give.

Religion always played an important role in her life, and she did all that she could to see that her children kept the faith by she and Harold sending them to Catholic grade and high schools. She herself was a lifelong Catholic, graduating from St. Catherine Academy in Lexington and attending St. Peter and St. Paul parishes in Lexington before moving to Louisville in 1959, where she attended St. Barnabas and then Church of the Ascension. The family is grateful for those who brought Mom the Eucharist weekly in her latter years, and especially for Danny Carrico's faithful execution of this effort for a number of years.

Mom leaves behind a small but loyal band of family to keep alive her memory, including her children Joanne (Jodye), (husband Dale), Harold (Buddy), (wife Michelle), and Patricia (Pat); grandchildren Erin (Geoffrey), Nina (Andrew), Laurel, and John and Kimberly (and their mother, Patty Rogers); and great grandchildren Kailey, Lindsey, Anna and Jack. She was preceded in death by her parents, John (Daddy John) and Ruth Ann Rebecca (Mimi) Quinn, her ever-present, albeit deceased, husband, Harold Taylor Rogers, a career public servant as a government employee (Internal Revenue Service) before his untimely death in 1981, and her son John.

Many thanks and praise are extended by the family for the loving care provided Mom for most of the past sixteen years following her debilitating stroke by Angela (her “angel”), along with Gladys, and Chris. We recognize that Mom lived so long and so well since her debilitating stroke in 2001 as a result of their generous, loving care. And all of the family salutes the incredible love, care and attention provided Mom by our sister, Pat, who enabled Mom to remain in her home all of these years since her stroke, providing her care and coordinating the care given to her by others, for whom their work with Mom was never a chore.

Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, is in charge of funeral arrangements, with visitation from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, June 27, and a Mass of Christian burial to celebrate her life at the Church of the Ascension, on Wednesday, June 28 at 10 AM. A private burial will follow in Lexington, Kentucky.

While we who recall her life miss her so much today, we carry on with the knowledge that she led a life worth leading, providing attention, care and support to all who came within her presence, but especially to her children, in a life that while limited by situation and physical limitations, was always the sunshine that beamed from that wonderful smile of hers. Those who did not know her and that ubiquitous smile missed something special. You should have known her.
