Margaret VanHaverbeke, 93, passed away Friday June 9th, 2017. Margaret was a member of the Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church and a former member of Ninth and O Baptist church. She was a PBX operator for the Brown Hotel and old Stewarts Dry Goods downtown store which later became L.S. Ayres; where she later retired from in 1987. She returned to work as a telephone operator for the University Hospital until finally retiring at age 76 to care for her husband of 62 years, who had Parkinson’s Disease. She is preceded in death by her husband Gerard VanHaverbeke, son, Michael VanHaverbeke, and grandchildren Randall and Timothy VanHaverbeke. She is survived by her children Gerard “Jerry” VanHaverbeke ( Sharon deceased), David VanHaverbeke (Revona), Mary Frerman (Rich), Jane Beckner (Rick), Doris “Marie” Schmitt, Sarah Dyroff, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Donna VanHaverbeke and a host of special family members. Visitation will be held Thursday June 15th from 2-7pm; at Highlands Funeral Home 3331 Taylorsville Rd. The funeral will be Friday at 11am at Highlands Funeral Home. With burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
