Obituary for James "Jim" Melvin Whittaker

James "Jim" Melvin, 86, died on Sunday, May 28th peacefully at his home with his wife of 60 years and his son and brother-in-law at his side. The cause of death was simple old age. He just stopped breathing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Charmaine; sons, David (Melissa), Daniel (Lisa), and James (Sharon); and two daughters, Shelia (William) and Rose Marie (Mark); as well as 10 grandchildren ranging the continent from Florida to Seattle.

He was a long-time employee of Ford Motor company, proud member of the United Auto Workers Union, a founding parishioner of St. Martha Catholic Church and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Ln. with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
