Obituary for Robert "Bob" George Lauyans

Robert "Bob" George Lauyans
LAUYANS,
Robert George "Bob", peacefully passed away at his home on May 22, 2017 at the amazing age of 89.
Bob attended St. Xavier High School and left to serve his country honorably in both the Navy (1945-46 - WWII) and the Army (1952-54 - Korean War). He retired as a Supervisor from the South Louisville Shops of the L&N Railroad after a 41 year career. He was blessed to enjoy 31 years of retirement.
Bob was a caring and compassionate man who loved his Catholic faith and his family. He was kind to all he met, wise and thoughtful in his advice - a man of integrity, strength and humility. His love for life could be found on the shores of St. Petersburg, Florida watching the waves lap over the sand while eating a grouper sandwich. He was an avid gardener and instilled a love of such in his daughters. His memory and the way he lived his life and treated others will live on through his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lena Lauyans; his brother, Johnny; and his sister, Helen.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan Lauyans; his devoted daughters, Donna Dornbrook, Judy Thieneman (Tommy), and Edie Lewis (Mike); his grandchildren, Andrew and Chris Dornbrook, Rachael Morgan (Paul), Leah Lewis; his sister, Dorothy Allen and many loving family members.

The family wishes to thank Dr. John Sullivan for his compassionate care over the years.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 5915 Outer Loop, of which he and Joan were founding members with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. His visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
Donations in Bob's memory may be made to Mass of the Air.
