Condolences

Condolence From: Dr. John Hans Gilderbloom, Professor at the University of Louisville
Condolence: Its February 18, 2022 and I just learned after arriving into town from my home in Phoenix about Chip's passing. I am so sorry to learn about this tragedy--with Charles growing up without a Dad and Mom. I lost my Mom when I was 25 but at least had my Dad. My late wife, Patty, was best pals organizing to make Belknap a great neighborhood but the private Friends School was also a place they left a mark on. With many students like Charles going on to great things.. My late son was four years older than Charles and was his babysitter and best pal as well! Chip also ran for judge in Louisville but refused to play the tired old play book and lost He ran on his record of integrity, fairness, and kindness.. When an angry parent had her son expelled from Friends School, the Mother threatened to bring a gun to school and start shooting. Chip, Linda, Patty, and I worked with police to stop the woman from getting on the private school campus and the four of us ended up in court defending our actions to keep the campus safe. There actions were vindicated when the woman's son was arrested several years later for crimes against children and sent to prison. The four of us did the right thing and might have saved lives. I see that Charles graduated from NYU and hope someone will give me his email or phone number I can be reached at 502-608-7567 or John.Gilderbloom@louisville.edu
I wish to share with Charles fond memories of his Mom and Dad. Peace, joy and love, Dr. John Hans Gilderbloom

Condolence: Chip Bowles was an honor to know and work for as his former Receptionist. Chip always shared his knowledge of his vast experiences in life both professionally and personally as a devoted Father and Husband. To know Mr. and Mrs. Bowles was a privilege.

Condolence From: John C. Good and Family
Condolence: Charles, we are shocked and dismayed to learn of your father's passing. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of grieving. Your father was a constant and thoughtful friend to me and my family> His monumental intellect and colossal wit were always a source of delight in publication, in conversation, and always at the generous dinner parties he hosted for the ABI Staff. I recall fondly Chip's series of comedic sketch presentations at ABI Conferences - the trails and tribulations of Boris Badenoff - that not only informed on complex legal issues but entertained as well. He will be deeply missed.

Condolence From: Hon. Jerome J. Metz, Jr.
Condolence: I was a partner at Porter Wright in Cincinnati, Ohio, where I worked together with Chip in Bankruptcy litigation. He was my good friend, and my wife Debbie and I enjoyed our occasional dinners with both Chip and Linda. Chip was everything you read in these various remembrances: a learned, brilliant, and honorable lawyer. In knowledge, insight, and practical application of the bankruptcy code Chip could not be touched. He understood the code past and present and how it's many intricacies fitted together and worked. Together Chip and I handled a number of important bankruptcy cases, winning victories against tough opponents, and forging lasting friendships with regular bankruptcy practitioners. Chip understood the importance of earned trust.

He was never stingy. When he was writing his chapter on post-divorce bankruptcy, he asked me to help with the final draft. I added a few interstices and polished it some. He gave me full credit as a coauthor.

He was my good friend, and I will miss him.

Condolence From: Andrea Fried Neichter
Condolence: I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Chip. We met in undergrad at U.K., attended law school together, and talked often in bankruptcy court and bankruptcy programs. I was amazed by his knowledge of bankruptcy law.He was also my first neighbor when I moved to Louisville after law school. While many call me "Andy," Chip always called me Andrea which always made me laugh. He will be truly missed.

Condolence From: David Leibowitz
Condolence: I got to know Chip over and the past two years working on the Individual Chapter 11 project. Chip was generous, kind, professional and altogether wonderful to work with. He taught me a lot. And so gracious! When we finished, he celebrated our work with the gift a fifth of the best Booker's Bourbon made....and my friends and I toasted to Chip while enjoying it just the weekend before last. As sad as we all are to hear of Chip's passing, somehow this seems like a fitting, if inadequate, memory. It was my honor to have called Chip a friend and he will be warmly remembered.

Condolence: Chip and I worked on several projects for the American Bankruptcy Institute, most notably on an important fee study and ethics project. He was the most honorable lawyer I've met and such a dedicated, hard worker. His work made a tremendous difference for the bench and bar. He was a true bar leader. When we finished the fee study, he gave everyone a Louisville slugger bat to signify that our work had "knocked it out of the park." It was his leadership that allowed us to do that. He was a great guy and will be sorely missed by the 11,000 ABI members.

Condolence: I am surprised and saddened to learn of Chip's passing. Chip and I served on a panel together at the Judge Joe Lee Institute CLE at UK last year. He was a pleasure to work with and brought both humor and education to this seminar. The entire bankruptcy legal community will miss Chip and is better off for having known him.
