Obituary for Harold Lee Minyard

Harold Lee Minyard, age 80, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Harold was born and raised in Highland Park. He was a graduate of duPont Manual High School, class of 1954, where he was a member of the orchestra, concert band and marching band, as well as many other clubs and organizations.
Following high school, he attended the University of Louisville’s Speed Scientific School, where he graduated with degrees in Civil Engineering and Physics. He was also the drum major for U of L’s Marching Band, and was a member of Delta Epsilon Fraternity.
In his early professional career, Harold taught physics in the Speed School at the University of Louisville. In the mid 60’s, he left Louisville to begin a career with Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan. Eventually he left Ford, returned to Louisville, and started working in the family’s hardware and real estate businesses. In 1995, he was instrumental in developing a hotel on the property he and his family owned on Phillips Lane. He owned and operated the hotel business until it was sold in 2007. From that day on, Harold enjoyed retirement, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved golf, music, chocolate, bourbon, and cheering on the Cards!
Harold is preceded in death by his son, Scott Alan Minyard; his parents, V.E. and Elizabeth Minyard; and his brothers Ronald and Kenneth Minyard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Gerry Hagan Minyard. He is also survived by his devoted family including Rebecca and Gene Braun, Dr. Andrea Minyard and Eric Kline, Kelly and Stepheny Minyard, Brian and Chrissy Evans, Tina and Scott Beard, and Jene Stratton Evans. Also, included as a part of his living legacy are his grandchildren, listed in the order of their arrival; “The Bigs”, Emily Braun, Alan Minyard, and Andrew Braun; “The Middles”, Sophie Kline, Olivia Braun, and Maggie Wolf; and “The Littles”, Cooper Evans, Claire Evans, and Davis Evans. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father and “Popo”, and a friend to all who knew him.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 23, 2017, at 1:00 pm with a Memorial to begin at 2:00 pm, Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
