Obituary for Susan Gilroy Virginia Agnes Finegan Thompson

Susan Gilroy Virginia Agnes Finegan Thompson
Thompson,
Susan Gilroy Virginia Agnes Finegan, 78, of Louisville, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017.
She is survived by her children, Joan Marie Thompson, Julia Tyler Thompson Hellstrom (Dan), David Jerome Thompson, III (Kelli), and John Charles Thompson (Lee Ann.) She is also survived by her sister Mary Patricia Campbell. She was loved dearly by her five grandchildren, Margaret, Daniel, David, Annie and Noah. They were her joy and delight.
Sue attended St. Agnes Elementary School and Presentation Academy. She was the first full time female student at Bellarmine College in 1956. She completed her degree after having her children, who proudly attended her graduation in 1976.
Sue was a gifted writer. Her family treasures the many letters and poems she has written to them over the years. Her joy and the gift of gab earned her the title of “the funniest person I have ever known,” by her eldest grandchild. Sue was a gift to all who knew her.
Sue enjoyed throwing birthday parties, or really, any party for any occasion. The more the merrier was her motto.
In her work life as the office manager for Emergency Management for the city of Louisville, she was known as the “Cake Lady.” She baked a cake for everyone’s birthday at city hall, including the Mayor.
In Sue’s career she also worked at the St. Matthews YMCA, St. Anthony Hospital and Bellarmine College.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at Highlands Funeral home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at Highlands.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Bellarmine University.
