Obituary for Vincent John "Jack" Ruck

Vincent John "Jack"  Ruck
RUCK, Vincent John "Jack", Jr.,

passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017, after a short illness.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Betty Jean Lawson Ruck and his son, Vincent John (John) Ruck, III. He is survived by his daughter, Betsy Ruck (Terry Coleman) and son Thomas B. Ruck, both of Louisville; daughter-in-law Isabel Ruck and granddaughter Kimberly Ruck of Seattle, WA; and sisters Beverly Wharton of Fairway, KS, and Liz Ward of Downers Grove, IL.

Born in Richmond, VA, Jack lived in Hopewell, VA, and Henderson, KY, before graduating from Ashland (KY) High School in 1949. He attended the University of Cincinnati on a track scholarship and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering in 1955.

Jack was married to Elizabeth Paul (Betty) Linney Ruck from 1953 to 1980. He was married to Betty Jean Lawson Ruck from 1983 until her passing in 2011. After his retirement from General Electric as a project manager, Jack and Betty lived in Stone Mountain, GA, before returning to Louisville in 2003. Jack was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church, and is a former member of Harvey Browne and Meadowview Presbyterian Churches and Highland and Smoke Rise (GA) Baptist Churches. Jack was a longtime member and supporter of Boy Scouts of America (Troops 340 and 34), and remained a lifetime member of the National Eagle Scout Association. Jack and Betty belonged to many square dance clubs, and Jack remained an active dancer until his passing.

Visitation will be at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road on Friday, January 20 from 3-8 p.m. and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at church. Funeral services will be at St. Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grandview Ave. on Saturday, January 21 at 10 a.m. with a private burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Boy Scouts of America, St. Matthew Baptist Church or to a preferred charity.
