GRIFFIN, Yvonne Dillingham, 96, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in Louisville, KY

She was born October 5, 1920 in Spiro, KY to Lillie Mae Belle and Thomas Barto Dillingham. She grew up in Mount Vernon, KY and was one of seven children. After graduating from High School, she moved to Louisville to attend Spencerian Business College and became a Medical Secretary at Nichols Hospital. It was during this time she met David Wyndham Griffin of Meridian, MS who was attending University of Louisville Medical School. They were married on February 19, 1944 in Portsmouth, Virginia. David began his service during World War II as a Lieutenant and Medical Officer in the United States Navy. They returned to Louisville after the war to begin his practice in General Surgery.

Yvonne was active in First Christian Church serving as a Sunday School teacher, helper for church dinners and as a member of various Circles.
She also worked in the Jefferson County Medical Society where she enjoyed their vision screening program for children. For many years she was a member of the Crescent Hill Women's Club.

Her husband of 64 years, preceded her in death November 3, 2008.

She is survived by a sister, Elaine Davidson of Richmond, KY, two daughters, Susan Griffin Bowman (Charles William) of Birmingham, AL, and Gail Griffin Smith (George Dennis) of Lexington, KY, Six grandchildren, David William Bowman (Anna-Katherine), Kelly Ann Bowman, Jonathan Griffin Bowman (Kayla) all of Birmingham, AL, Tyler Griffin Smith (Courtney) of West Hartford, CT, Carson Wood Smith (Christy) of Lexington, KY, and Laura Gail Smith of Washington DC, Seven great grandchildren Ann-Massey, Sara-Katherine, David Graves, Grace Wyndham Bowman, James Griffin, Laura Wood, Louisa Potter Smith.

The funeral will be Saturday, December 31 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road with visitation at 11:00 followed by the service at noon. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Her family would like to thank the providers of the dedicated nursing care she received for many years and The Hosparus staff.
