Obituary for Marsha Jane Sammons

Marsha Jane  Sammons
Sammons, Marsha Jane, 70, of Louisville, passed away Monday, December 26, 2016.

Born in Louisville, the former Marsha Horine was an alumna of Manual High School where she played in the band, and retired after 38 years at the Courier Journal. She volunteered in the money room for over 40 years for the Crusade for Children and was an honorary member of the Highview Fire Department. She was a member of Southeast Christian Church, was a KY Colonel, and was a 1985 nominee for the Belle Award.

Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Helen Horine; brother, Herschel Dale Horine; and beloved dog, Belle.

She is survived by her son, Richard Sammons; siblings, Beverly Horine Harrison (Ronald) of Hanover, IN, Dennis Horine (Mary Anne) of Madison, IN, Jerry Horine (Murlene) of Bradenton, FL, and Marshall Gale Horine (Marie) of Lexington, IN; sister-in-law, Wanda Horine of Madison, IN; adopted sister, Marie Schneider (Doug); and several nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Marsha’s funeral service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Southeast Christian Church with burial to follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Friday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, and at the church on Saturday, from 9:00am until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Crusade for Children or the Southeast Christian Church Building Fund.
