Obituary for Virginia "Ginny" Canine Dozier

DOZIER,
Virginia “Ginny” Canine, 88, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016.
She was born on May 29, 1928 in Louisville, KY and grew up at 432, 5th street in the building known as “The Old House”. Her father, Robert Fulton Canine, was the last of a long line of dentists, whose practice was out of the same location on 5th. When Robert died the house was sold to Erma Dicke, who established The Old House Restaurant at the location.
She graduated from Atherton Girls High School and the University of Louisville. She loved to camp when she was a girl and became a camp counselor. From 1949 to 1954 she taught girls health at Manual High School. When her children became older, she worked at Brooklawn Children’s School, The Muscular Dystrophy Association and The Louisville Community Foundation. She attended Christ Church Cathedral services regularly since the age of 8.
Her hobbies were tennis, walking, swimming at Lakeside Swim Club, and playing the piano. She was very active socially and donated to many charitable organizations. Ginny was the neighborhood mother always taking us and the kids places. She was light hearted and upbeat. She would make us laugh at ourselves. She was always thinking of others and helping people.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Robert Fulton Canine; and by her husband of 90 years, Joseph Dozier.
Ginny is survived by her children, Alan Kent Dozier, Audrey Wynne Schmidt, and Barry Fulton Dozier; and by her brother, Robert Fulton Canine.
Visitation will be at 11:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 at Christ Church Cathedral, 421 S. 2nd Street from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a service. Burial will be at 2:15 p.m. at Cave Hill Cementary, Friday December 23, 2016.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Katherine Fields and Katherine Fikes for the wonderful care they provided and Highlands Funeral Home for the arrangements.
