Obituary for Ruth Marie Krebs

Ruth Marie Krebs
Ruth Marie Krebs (Deinderfer)

On the morning of December 6, 2016, Ruth passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s. She was 87 years old and had been living at Jefferson Place in Louisville, KY.

Ruth is survived by her loving and devoted husband Clarence, who remained by her side for sixty-four years. Ruth also leaves behind eight children: Karl (Cindy), Joseph (Carolyn), C. Robert (Victoria), Michael (Laura), Nancy Riggs (Robert), Susan, Mark (Torrey), and Laura Brown (James) and seventeen adoring grandchildren who will carry their grandmother’s memory into perpetuity.

Ruth was born on March 22, 1929, in the home of her parents as the fourth daughter to her Mary and Orville Deinderfer in St. Anthony, Indiana. Growing up on a southern Indiana farm, Ruth fondly recalled playing in the barnyard, pumping water in the trough for the cows, canning fruits and vegetables, surviving “thrashing days,” and eating her mother’s delectable home-cooked meals. Ruth, like her mother, always believed that work and pleasure could be cut from the same cloth. She adopted many of her mother’s philosophies, traits, and life skills.

After graduating from High School in Huntingburg, Indiana, Ruth moved to Louisville, KY where she attended St. Helena’s Commercial College to study bookkeeping. In Louisville, Ruth met Clarence Krebs and they were married August 26, 1952. After the wedding, Ruth went on to be an Air Force wife in Denver, Colorado and Rapid City, South Dakota. She and Clarence returned to Louisville in 1954, which would be her home for the remainder of her life.

Ruth returned to work as a bookkeeper for Highland Community Ministries, a job she dutifully held for over 20 years. She also kept busy traveling visiting her adult children and their grandkids. She crisscrossed the US—and Europe—with a spirit of adventure and a true love of life. More recently, Ruth and Clarence liked to spend their weekends near Paoli, Indiana, where two of her sons bought farmland. There she gladly took on her familiar farm role while making new friends, especially at the parish of Christ the King in Paoli. Ruth never spoke a harsh word; she was kind, considerate, and had a positive attitude that never wavered. Wherever she went, her friends and family would say the same thing--she was a true Pollyanna.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 am Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes, 508 Breckinridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40207 with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 4-8 pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd; Louisville, KY 40205.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Ruth’s honor to Hosparus, PO Box 35425, Louisville, KY, 40232.
