Obituary for Bernadine Mae Akridge

Bernadine Mae Akridge
Bernadine Mae Akridge, 88, departed this life for her eternal home on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Baptist Hospital East, surrounded by loved ones.

She was the former Bernadine Thomasson and was born in No Creek, Kentucky, on May 27, 1928, the daughter of Cornelia (Van de Krol) and Goebel Thomasson, who preceded her in death. She was the oldest daughter of six siblings.

“She was a constant witness of the Lord Jesus Christ to her family and friends”

She grew up in the 23rd and Howard Street neighborhood of Louisville and was baptized at 23rd and Broadway Baptist Church at age 12. At 23rd, she was church clerk and was a member of the choir. She was more recently a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church and served on the Single Adult Committee, was co-director of her Sunday School Class, the Encouragers, and also was a past member of the House and Grounds Committee. She was a graduate of Shawnee (girls) High School, Class of ‘46. She retired from TARC with 40 years of service as an Executive Assistant.

Also preceding her in death were brothers Gene Amos (Pauline), Frank Thomasson (Delores), and Milton Thomasson (Martha), all of Louisville.

Left to cherish her memory are beloved daughter Brenda Magers (Richard) of Omaha, Nebraska, light of her life granddaughter Megan Davidson (Michael) her greatest joy- her great grandson Mason Davidson, all of Denver, Colorado, and her “adopted” grandson, Anders Sylvester-Johnson of Roanoke, Virginia.

She also leaves behind her devoted sidekick- sister Doris Thomasson, brother Harry Thomasson (Louise), both of Louisville, and her furry companion “Bear”. She loved and was loved by her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and the entire Thomasson clan. She cherished her wonderful friends and neighbors. She endeared herself to everyone she met with her ready wit and generous spirit. WE ARE UTTERLY HEART BROKEN.

A celebration of her life well lived will be held on Saturday, November 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial to follow in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Walnut Street Baptist Church TV Ministry or Singles Department, Hosparus or Humane Society.
