Obituary for Norma Aebersold Tipton

Norma Aebersold Tipton
Norma Aebersold Tipton died peacefully on September 18, 2016. She maintained her keen mind and sharp wit until her final months and was a faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Norma was born April 1, 1920, in Louisville, the daughter of Frederich and Freda (Foell) Aebersold.

As a young woman, she grew up in both Louisville and Long Beach, CA, before graduating from Louisville Girls School in 1938 and making Louisville her permanent home. She was a top legal secretary working with some of the leading companies and law firms in the city (Brown Forman, Woodward Hobson & Fulton and Judge John Marshall) and was an active member of the USO from 1943 – 1945. It was in the Louisville Hiking Club, however, that she met the love of her life, James Kenneth Tipton. They married on June 5, 1949, and celebrated 64 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2013.

Norma and Ken were active travelers throughout their adult lives, having visited all 50 states and numerous foreign countries. She was a long time Louisville Cardinals and New York Yankees fan before being converted by marriage to the Cincinnati Reds. But most of all, Norma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first and her friends above herself. She was blessed with a strong mind and good health that allowed her to treasure and enjoy her grandchildren until her final days.

Norma is survived by her two sons, James Kenneth Tipton Jr. of Cincinnati and John Martin Tipton of Los Angeles, her loving daughter-in-law Carolyn Redford Tipton, her adoring grandchildren Clay and Kelly and her nephew the Reverend Kenneth F. Baker of Los Angeles.

Visitation will be from 11 am – 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 24th, at Highlands Funeral Home at 3331 Taylorsville Road. There will be a service of remembrance at 1:30 pm on the 24th followed by internment at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Instead of gifts, please remember the good times of her life or help your favorite charity in her memory.
