VAN BAKEL, ADRIAN JOHN, 89, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2013. He was born November 23, 1923 to the late John and Dora Van Bakel. He grew up in Little Chute, Wisconsin and served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theatre. He graduated from the University of Louisville with a BS in 1951 and an MBA in 1955. While attending UofL, he belonged to the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He retired in 1987 as a night operations manager after working for the Lorillard Corporation for over 30 years. He was a 60 year member of the American Legion, a former Kentucky State Commander of US Submarine Veterans of World War II and a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Van Bakel is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa (Kratzwald) Van Bakel; children, Valerie Walker, Adrian Van Bakel (Sharon), Diane Van Bakel, Rosemary Eisner (Don), Keith Van Bakel, and Kevin Van Bakel; grandchildren, Adam, Brittany, Allison, Sang Hyok, and Emma; sister, Delores Van Bakel; brother, Joseph Van Bakel (Angie); and numerous nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass will be 10am Saturday at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 3042 Hikes Lane, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
