Dr. K. Vincent "Vince" Ziegler, 85, passed away peacefully at home February 18, 2013, after a long illness, surrounded by loving family members and his best friend and wife of 33 years, Gemma.
He was born in 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky. A graduate of St. Xavier's Class of 1945, he later attended Xavier University, and graduated from University of Louisville's Medical School in 1954. He served as the last President of Medical Staff at St. Joe's Infirmary, and on the Executive Board at Audubon Hospital. He was in family practice in Louisville for 57 years, delivered over 500 babies, and was a beloved physician to his patients young and old.
He married Mary Gemma Peacock in 1979. Together their family included many children and several grandchildren, each cherishing their memories of time spent with him.
Immediate family members include his children; daughter Diane Poulter (Don) of Colorado, Vincent Ziegler, Jr. of Louisville, Dr. John P. "Jack" Ziegler (Jules) of Lexington, Peggy Baily (Kirk) of California, Laura Sullivan (David) of Harrodsburg, Julie Wileman (Ron) of Louisville and Beau Walsburger (Anessa) of Louisville and Grandchildren; Kevin, Brian, Stephanie, Jessica, Bella Clare, Bowen, Cory, Samantha, Isabelle, Nolen and Bonnie. Also survived by Dr. Ziegler is his faithful dog Molly. Special thanks to extended family and friends that helped care for him during his illness, including Marilyn Kennedy, Germaine Whitehouse and especially long-time family friend, Sara Sexton.
Visitation will be at Highland Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Tuesday, February 19th, from 2pm-8pm. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Raphael Church, 2141 Lancashire Avenue, Wednesday, February 20th at 10 am, and burial will follow at the family farm, River Glen, 495 Elliott Road at 2pm in Harrodsburg, Ky.
